For me, there's nothing that beats the feeling of the balance of forces between the tiller and main sheet - enjoying that connection to the wind, water and nature. While the VR version doesn't completely replicate that feeling, it is certainly good enough for me to quickly lose myself in the joy of sailing.
I learned sailing in dinghies in 2010 in preparation for a yachting holiday. I later expanded my experience and training leading to an RYA Day Skipper qualification in 2013 in the Canaries. I aimed to go further with my training in 2020, but the pandemic put a crimp in my plans. To simply jump into a dinghy in VR and start sailing from our living room floor was an amazing gift. Also, never having raced properly (as they say, if there's another sail up, it's a race), this gives me something new to think about.
